Toronto’s nightlife was shaped by British restraint and social conservatism. Speakeasies existed, but they were discreet — tucked behind restaurants, inside private clubs, or disguised as “soft drink parlours.” Toronto flappers wanted fun but they also wanted respectability.

Fashion leaned softer: waved bobs, delicate makeup, refined drop‑waist dresses and accessories that felt modern but not scandalous. Toronto’s nightlife was quieter, more structured, and deeply tied to social rules. It was modernity with boundaries — a careful dance between rebellion and reputation.
