A Professional Phone Interview w/ Peter Nygard (2012) Developed Into a Writing Career

It all began with an editorial, business-oriented beauty blog, called Face by Stace, established in 2009, with a young lady at the age of twenty-two, while working in television, as a makeup artist.

Shortly after Face by Stace was picked up by The Mississauga News in 2012…

A phone interview that took place in 2012 with Peter Nygard—a very professional interview—was re-published in 2013. Shortly afterwards, by the summer of 2013, an American publisher reached out to offer an opportunity to write what was supposed to be a single article for their magazine. That single piece transformed into writing for every consecutive issue until the beginning of 2016 for Cliche Magazine, working alongside an editor who became my trusted mentor and has since become a Copy Manager for Nautica and Lucky Brand.

First article ever & it’s my first article with Cliché, published in October 2013.

I selected the images for this article, as I often did with all of my articles with Cliché. I organized and executed photo-shoots, my independent photo-shoots, for a few of my articles for Cliché and other publications. I supplied the makeup for these shoots, while my friend, celebrity and award-winning hairstylist was also my business partner — she is so talented. I’ve had models and wardrobe stylists from New York, reach out to me. They wanted to work with me and for me on my photo-shoots. Imagine if I had promoted these photo-shoots.

Later, I was credited as a writer by the Editor-in-Chief at FSHN Magazine.

Since 2012, I’ve been told I proved you can get your news online.

P.S. I wrote under my step-father’s name, he is from Portugal.

How to Care for Sensitive Skin

Caring for sensitive skin starts with protecting the barrier and reducing anything that might trigger irritation. The goal is to keep the skin calm, hydrated and supported — not overwhelmed with active ingredients or harsh routines.

Begin with a gentle, non‑stripping cleanser. Sensitive skin reacts quickly to foaming agents, fragrances, and strong surfactants, so choose formulas labelled hydrating, soothing or barrier‑friendly. Cleansing should leave the skin comfortable, never tight.

Next, focus on hydration and barrier repair. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, squalane, and niacinamide at low percentages. These help replenish moisture, strengthen the barrier, and reduce reactivity over time. Avoid heavy essential oils, strong acids, and high‑potency retinoids until the skin is stable.

Infographic titled HOW TO CARE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN: A gentle guide to healthy, calm skin. Choose the right products: fragrance-free cleanser, gentle moisturizer, hypoallergenic lotion, and patch test first; avoid harsh ingredients, fragrance, and sulfates. Establish a gentle routine: cleanse gently morning and night, then apply moisturizer with sunscreen daily. Avoid irritants: sun exposure, hot water, rubbing or scrubbing, and chemical peels. Key soothing ingredients: aloe vera, ceramides, oatmeal extract, allantoin, and glycerin. Listen to your skin and seek professional advice when needed. Fictional Wellness Organization.
This illustrated guide shares simple ways to calm, protect, and care for sensitive skin.

Moisturizer is essential. Choose a cream that’s fragrance‑free, alcohol‑free, and designed for sensitive or reactive skin. A good barrier cream locks in hydration and prevents environmental stressors from causing flare‑ups.

Sun protection is non‑negotiable. Sensitive skin often reacts to UV exposure, so a mineral sunscreen (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) is usually the most comfortable option.

Lifestyle matters too. Reduce long, hot showers, avoid over‑exfoliating, and be mindful of seasonal triggers like wind, cold air, and indoor heating. Even makeup choices matter — opt for hydrating formulas and avoid heavy powders that can emphasize irritation.

With consistent care, sensitive skin becomes calmer, stronger, and more resilient — proving that gentle routines can be incredibly effective.

How Sensitive Skin Works

Sensitive skin isn’t a skin type — it’s a reactive skin behaviour. It means your skin’s barrier is easily overwhelmed, causing it to respond more intensely to products, weather, or environmental changes. When the barrier is compromised or naturally delicate, irritants can penetrate more easily, triggering redness, stinging, tightness or inflammation.

This infographic compares healthy and sensitive skin barriers, showing how triggers can cause inflammation, nerve hypersensitivity, and irritation symptoms.

The most common cause is a weakened moisture barrier. When the barrier is thin or damaged, the skin loses water quickly and becomes more vulnerable to external stressors. Even gentle products can feel harsh because the skin doesn’t have enough protection to buffer them.

Sensitive skin also reacts strongly to fragrance, alcohol, harsh exfoliants and essential oils. These ingredients can disrupt the barrier or trigger inflammation, especially when used frequently. Weather plays a role too — cold air, wind, heat and low humidity can all heighten sensitivity by pulling moisture from the skin.

Some people naturally have sensitive skin due to genetics, while others develop it over time through over‑exfoliation, strong acne treatments, or inconsistent skincare routines. Stress, lack of sleep and hormonal shifts can also make the skin more reactive.

In short: sensitive skin is skin that’s easily triggered because its barrier needs extra support. Strengthening hydration, reducing irritants and choosing gentle, barrier‑friendly products are the keys to keeping it calm, comfortable, and resilient.

Alyssa Rivers (The Recipe Critic) Inspired: Creamy Garlic‑Leek & Cranberry Chicken Flatbread

This Creamy Garlic‑Leek & Cranberry Chicken Flatbread is the perfect blend of cozy comfort and autumn elegance. The base starts with buttery sautéed leeks simmered in garlic and cream, creating a velvety sauce that feels indulgent yet balanced. How to Fix Dehydrated Skin

How to Fix Dehydrated Skin; Step 1 Cleanse Gently; Step 2 Apply Hyaluronic Acid Serum; Step 3 Seal With Ceramide Moisturizer; Step 4 Drink Plenty of Water
This skincare guide pairs gentle cleansing, hydration, moisturizing, and plenty of water for healthier-looking skin.

Fixing dehydrated skin starts with restoring water and protecting your barrier so that moisture stays where it belongs. The first step is to add hydration back into the skin using ingredients that attract and hold water — hyaluronic acid, glycerin, aloe, and urea are some of the most effective. Apply these on slightly damp skin to boost absorption and lock in more moisture.

Infographic: HOW TO FIX DEHYDRATED SKIN: 1. Drink Plenty of Water 2. Cleanse Gently 3. Use Hyaluronic Acid Serum 4. Lock in with Ceramide Moisturizer 5. Avoid Harsh Ingredients 6. Use Sunscreen Daily.
A simple six-step skincare guide pairs hydration advice with products for gentle, moisturized skin.

Next, seal that hydration in. Even if you’re oily, you need a moisturizer. Choose lightweight gels if you prefer a non‑greasy feel or richer moisturizers if your skin leans dry. Oils and ceramide‑based moisturizers help strengthen the barrier, preventing water from evaporating throughout the day.

Gentle cleansing is essential. Harsh cleansers, over‑exfoliation and strong acne treatments can strip water from the skin, making dehydration worse. Switch to a hydrating cleanser and reduce exfoliation to once or twice a week until your skin feels balanced again.

Lifestyle matters too. Increase water intake, reduce excessive caffeine, and add a humidifier during dry seasons — especially in Alberta’s climate, where indoor heating pulls moisture from the air. Shorter, lukewarm showers also help prevent moisture loss.

Finally, choose makeup wisely. Opt for hydrating foundations, avoid heavy powders, and prep the skin with a moisture‑boosting primer.

With consistent hydration, barrier support, and gentler routines, dehydrated skin becomes smoother, plumper, and more resilient — restoring that healthy, comfortable glow.
